Meet Our Team: Thomas Liu 劉奐呈

Written by our Director for Asia-Pacific Policy, Thomas Liu.

Hello everyone!

My name is Thomas Liu and I’m glad to join Youth Collaboration on Foreign Affairs as its Director for Asia-Pacific Policy.

I was born in the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the year of 2000 and moved to Northern Virginia just before 8th grade. At the age of 12, right before moving to the States, I was invited by International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) to speak at their annual conference at Doha, Qatar about youth based cross culture PBL (Project Base Learning) projects.

After moving to the United States, I started to engage myself in public policy and foreign affairs, as someone who aspires to become a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) focusing the Asia-Pacific, I have an extensive background knowledge of the region.

Over the past few years in America, I have met with hundreds of local, state, national and international politicians, diplomats and leaders such as Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright, and Nikki Haley. In addition, I had the extreme honor to speak at the prestigious DC think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) asking President (then candidate) Tsai Ing-Wen about domestic Taiwan politics and asking the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and then candidate for UN Secretary General, Hellen Clark, about Taiwan’s participation in sub-UN organizations.

As a High School student, I am an active member of my school’s Model United Nations Club, competing in more than 25 conferences including receiving the highest honor at the Ivy League Model UN Conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. I am a coxswain for my school’s crew team and I also represent my school as an advisor to the Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools, the 10th largest school district in America.

Outside of school, I am a Competent Communicator recognized by Toastmasters International, the Membership Director for VAYD teen caucus, an advocate for UN Stainable Development Goals who serves as a committee member at UN Association of the National Capital Area, and President of FASCA DC, a Taiwanese youth organization committed to spread the Taiwanese culture in Northern America.

Please feel free to visit my Personal Website, Facebook Page, Twitter, LinkedIn, or shoot me an email.

Best,

Thomas Liu 劉奐呈
