YGG Japan’s new project, the game-specific Layer 3 blockchain KATANA Project, will be announced at IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO.
New Era of Blockchain Gaming: Katana Project
On 2 July 2024, YGG Japan KK (‘YGG Japan’) will launch its new blockchain project, “KATANA Project”. The project will be announced at IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO, which is one of the largest crypto conferences in Japan.
The project is a Layer 3 solution that integrates Starknet’s advanced Zero Knowledge Proof (ZK) technology with Lua, a leading scripting language in the gaming industry. The KATANA Project is officially partnered with Starknet.
KATANA Project’s product team consists of members that have been in the Japanese entertainment industry for years, with experience in game production and IP utilization.
KATANA Project will provide necessary tools that will support web3 game development, and assure fast transaction speed and robust security. By doing so, this will allow game developers to transition into the Web3 realm without any technical constraints and enable innovative games to be developed quickly and efficiently. We believe that KATANA Project will pave the way for the future of blockchain technology by utilizing advanced technological infrastructure created through the project.
On 4 July 2024, YGG Japan will be presenting the full details of the KATANA Project within a session that will be held at 2PM JST at the Web3 Entertainment Zone “SHAKE!” in IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO.
After the presentation, we will invite local Web3 experts to have a discussion on “How can Japanese Chains compete globally and what it takes to win in the market”. We will also explore what the Japanese government, who have been leading the way in creating an environment to promote Web3-related businesses, and the chains should do to create a truly global public chain that will promote the entertainment industry from Japan, the “Content Powerhouse”.

KATANA Project Overview
■ Blockchain game development environment which incorporates the leading scripting language in the gaming industry.
Although there are numerous gaming companies in the world that are interested in developing blockchain games, most have not been able to make that transition. This is because blockchain projects have not provided a suitable development environment for the existing game developers.
The KATANA Project aims to bring more game developers into the Web3 world by utilizing Lua, a language that is widely used in blockchain game development.
■ Easy-to-use scripting language
Lua is a simple and comprehensive scripting language which is easy to adopt for a wide range of programmers, whether they are beginners or experts. It has been widely used in the development of mods for various games and is still used by many game developers. Many game engines and projects incorporate Lua for its flexibility and light weight.
■ New style of blockchain gaming
Recently, there has been increasing numbers of blockchain games that have taken on styles of “fully on-chain games” or “Autonomous Worlds”, where the game logic is implemented on-chain. The KATANA project will support developers to overcome the challenges of developing new blockchain-based games.

Katana CairoVM, a unique execution environment optimized for ZK-Rollup and capable of working with EVM, is implemented to support large-scale game development.

The webpage for the new YGG Japan project, the game-specific L3 solution KATANA, is now officially open.
