Visiting the Tower of London

Real estate senior executive Yehuda Dachs enjoys traveling in his free time. Yehuda Dachs notes the Tower of London as one of the most memorable places he has visited.
Built by William the Conqueror in 1066, the Tower of London sits on a strategic bend along the River Thames. It served as a fortress as well as the gateway to the London capital. It is Europe’s most complete 11th-century palace fortress in existence. A series of royal buildings were constructed beginning in the 11th century up until the 16th century. Within the walls of the Tower is an area covering 12 acres.
Home to a succession of rulers, it has served many roles over the centuries. Aside from functioning as the royal residence, it took the form of a zoo, an armory, and a prison. Three queens were executed in the Tower.
It is also houses the Crown Jewels, which are on display for visitors. The Crown Jewels collections are made up of 23,578 gems. Also on exhibition is the crown worn by Elizabeth II on her coronation.
Guided tours around the complex usually last an hour.
