A call to action for radicals, dreamers and makers

Inspired by Quentin’s Kill Bill, Woz, Jobs and Google X 


When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money.

That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is — everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.

There comes a time in a man’s life when he has to decide to live faceless among the masses or choose to make a difference and leave a dent in the universe. Life is about choices. ‘We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win” — JFK

To think that people are born or destined for greatness is a lie and it is in all of us to achieve greatness. Our ambitions are a glass ceiling to what we can truly accomplish. Never doubt that an individual or small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact its the only thing that has ever happened over and over again. People can set their minds to magically seemingly impossible ideas and through science and technology bring them to reality and that can set other people on fire to believe they can do it to.

You’ve got to find what you love, what you are passionate about and when you do you’ll know it because nothing else seems to matter as much. When you find your passion, amazing things happen and that’s true throughout human history.

If you choose to make something 10% better, you are almost by definition signing up for the status quo and making it a little bit better. That means you start from the status quo. You start with all of the existing assumptions… Here’s the weird thing: If you sign up for Moonshot thinking, if you sign up to make something 10 times better, there is no chance of doing it using the existing assumptions. You’re going to have to throw out the rule book.

When Kennedy said we are going to put a man on the moon, it was about the fact that he said we don’t know how to do it YET but we are going to do it anyways…and we did it. If that happened what can’t we do.

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — preferably God, your gut, life, karma or whatever you believe in.

If you take away anything from this, it’s that you are the future, you are the ones that have the ideas in your head, you are the only ones who can build it for yourself, and that is your task — you are building what you want to see in the world, you’re making a bet with the world that you’re building something useful to other people.

And here’s the crux; the thing that matters most is to figure out what’s important to you, what is at your core and do that. Be that and do it, be it with passionate intensity.

Finally, I want to be remembered as someone who inspired others to be who they want to be because the smallest actions done by passionate people can change the world.
