What is Pornography in your language?

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

I bet “pornography” doesn’t exist as a word yet in your native language unless you are going to coin several words and describe it in a phrase. The word “Pornography” didn’t exist also while Jesus was on earth in a physical body and during the times the Bible was being written (transcribed). It takes an honest person, filled with the Holy Spirit, who is also willing to be transformed to see beyond the letters and observe the in-depth meaning of the Word of God.

The Bible did not directly mention Pornography

Yes, and the Bible is not silent on the issue of Pornography as well. There are quite a number of scriptures that points to the topic of Pornography especially in the New Testament. (Colossians 3:5, Matthew 5:28, Ephesians 5:3, etc).

First you must know that the issue of sexual immorality (Fornication, adultery, etc) or impurity (Pornography, Lust, etc) always emanates from the mind. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil. Masturbation, Fornication, Adultery and other Sexual sins are the actions that are taken as a result of what is going on in the mind. So the first time Jesus will address the subject of Adultery, he didn’t address it as the action itself but as the thought.

“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman (or man) to lust after her(him) hath committed adultery with her(him) already in his(her) heart.”

Cleanliness and Purity

A man or woman can actually lust in his or her mind without watching porn or seeing naked body parts physically. So when people engage with Pornographic contents what they do is facilitate the process of lust which is equivalent to doing the actual thing: committing adultery or fornicating because eventually, the action will happen.

A person can be clean and not pure but it is not possible to be pure and not clean. That is, it is possible to lust in your heart and abstain from sex and other sexual sins physically but with time if you don’t deal with the lusts in your heart, the prolonged impurity will lead to uncleanness, which is the action.

So when we deal with impurity in our heart, thoughts and imagination, it becomes easy to deal with the tangible outcome physically.

We can do without it

The good news for us as Christians however is that Christ has died and saved us from the power of sin and death. If you are in Christ you have the power to overcome these things. We have received Grace to deal with the root cause of immorality and impurity in the heart. How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying God’s word. Psalm 119:9. Stay in God’s word and let it transform you from inside out.

God is on our side and it is the winning side. He wants us to be holy and stay away from sexual sins. He wants us to learn to control our body and use it in a way that gives honor to him. Don’t let sexual desires control you like people who don’t know God. 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5
