18 Things Your Web Redesign Needs | #5: Post-Launch Planning
Thursday, April 21, 2016 | Greg Kihlström
Although you will have already outlined a post-launch plan well before the launch of your site, you will only be able to see it in action following the public release of your new website. The post-launch plan helps give your website the needed attention and care to make sure that it continues to be effective over time.
Below are a few things to keep in mind that are important for the launch of your new website.
Management & Updates
Make sure that you’ve addressed management of all of the following once the site launches:
- Website content
- Content Management System updates
- Hosting and Technology infrastructure
You may have a mix of internal teams and external vendors working on the above, but it’s important to know what the division of responsibility will be.
Beyond simply keeping your site up to date, you need to make sure that your website is continually being optimized. With a proper analytics and measurement plan, you will be able to test and optimize all of the key areas of your site.
Set a frequency at which you will monitor and report on the website and use the goals you set as part of your planning to set benchmarks by which to base your analysis and optimization.
It’s not enough to simply launch a website. As soon as your new site is up, running, and viewable by the public, you need to make sure that it is continually being updated, monitored and optimized to perform at its maximum effectiveness.
Our next post will begin the strategy portion of our article series. It will discuss information architecture and the important role it plays in the planning and development of your new website.
