This was a very revealing interview. While I appreciate the civility of the discourse, I couldn’t help but be a little irritated during the conversation. The assertion that the people of this region prefer to communicate in the ballot box and that they are not necessarily keyed in to the day to day decisions and controversies of the Trump administration is shocking. Clamoring for a change candidate and then disengaging for the duration of their administration, only to reveal yourself and your interests every four or two years later is galling! The refrain of the white working class that “No one is listening to us!” rings a little hollow to me when the eyes of the entire world is on them and they have nothing to say. Meanwhile liberals are browbeaten for living and engaging with their diverse communities and making decisions and policy that aid in their goals from a vocal and engaged place. I don’t know how this is supposed to work. It just seems like chaos.
