Cignals.io and our community have grown immensely since our launch in January 2022. We are so grateful to all our customers, community members, partnered institutions, and influencers who have shown immense interest in our product! We’ve tried as hard as possible to keep costs low and value high for our paying customers while offering a high-functioning free tier for those on the fence about paying for order flow tools. We understand the notion of wanting to learn before purchasing a subscription.
As most of you may (or may not) know, Cignals is 100% funded by its founders and has zero outside help from investors. This has given us the creative freedom to laser-focus on the user experience over the quick growth shareholders would demand. As a result, our costs to keep the platform running the way everyone has become accustomed to are quite immense. With that said, the time has come to reduce operating costs by sunsetting the free tier of Cignals.
We know this comes as a surprise, and our goal is to ease everyone into this transition. Could we have placed ads on the free tier and squeezed some money out of it that way? Sure, but that is not the experience we want our users to have on Cignals. Advertisements wouldn’t be a viable long-term solution to the scaling crossroads we’re approaching. Eventually, this day would likely come no matter what, and after a long and thoughtful discussion, we’ve decided to get ahead of it now, while we are still a relatively young company.
These measures will open the door to many new and innovative features on the Cignals platform that we’ve had to hold off on to support our suite of tools that currently exists for all users, free and paid. Users can expect revamped tiers, with the basic tier gaining many new features (which we’ll highlight in a separate article) that were only available to advanced tier users! Advanced tier users will be grandfathered into what we call the “legacy tier” which has been around since we stealth launched in 2021. The original legacy tier gives access to all that we offer and all that we ever plan to offer (even if marketed at a higher price point) in the future for $50 a month.
Currently, the advanced tier is $79/mo, and users who upgrade or sign up for a new advanced tier account before July 31st, 2024 will be grandfathered into this iteration of the legacy tier for $79/mo for the life of their active account. We’ve honored this for our first batch of $50/mo users and will honor it again as a show of gratitude to our early adopters! What can the legacy tier expect going forward? Behind the scenes, we’ve been working to integrate TradFi data onto Cignals! This will be available in our third, and newest tier, aptly named “Pro” which will include all of the current advanced features, plus TradFi (and more to be spoken about in a subsequent article).
Once we close the legacy tier starting in August, the advanced tier discord channel will no longer be available after September 2nd, 2024, and will only be available to Pro Tier subscribers. Anyone who is grandfathered into legacy will not be affected by this change! However, the OG tag you may see people sporting in our Discord will no longer be available, even to Pro tier users. We plan to close the grandfathering of users into legacy and sunset that tier (for new users) on July 31st, 2024 in addition to the freemium. We have many plans for creatively utilizing the OG tag, to keep the value high for our legacy users (again, spoken about in-depth in a separate article) and show our appreciation for the support they’ve given us over the years as we’ve grown.
We’re often asked, why do you not offer a free trial to Cignals? For a while, we entertained this and even attempted it a few times. The result is a massive gamification of the trial program using disposable debit cards and numerous burner emails. It’s unfair to us here at Cignals who work so hard to deliver these tools and it's unfair to the paying customers who value our work. We will not be offering trials post-sunsetting as there's been a roughly 3-year period that the platform has been free in some way.
We highly recommend trying the basic tier for at least three months to get your feet wet and learn. We've gotten immensely positive feedback from those who take the time to understand the platform. Here’s a direct quote from one of our advanced-tier users via Discord:
