Simplify your thinking, simplify your life
I have an hypothesis..
You can make your life easier if you can make things binary.
For example: take the statement: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I wanna get up: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I don’t wanna get up: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I went to sleep at 23:00: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I went to sleep at 03:00: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I’m in a coma: “I wake up at 02:55.”
If I’m dead and my body has been broken down into atoms and formed new molecules: “I wake up at 02:55.”
I think it makes life much easier because you never have to talk to your alter ego. there’s no reason you’re gonna stay in bed.
So if that voice tells you: “you got a presentation and you stayed up late.. stay in bed.” Your response is still: “I wake up at 02:55.” You take ownership. No one forced you to stay up late. And if it was absolutely inevitable, then you’re still gonna wake up at 02:55.
What if you really, really, really think oh have a valid reason and it’s not an excuse?
Procrastinate one day on it.. so instead of giving in to your alter ego in that moment.. (when he might trick you into giving in and you’ll later regret it.) Take a day.
If you think you have to wake up later.. wake up at 02:55 today, sleep earlier and see if you still rationally feel the need tmrw.
Don’t wanna go to the gym because: “your body needs rest bruh.” — Alter Ego
Go today.
Decide tomorrow if that was really true or if you were being lazy.
By doing this you’re simplifying the decisions making process.
If you make ‘a plan’ for your day. (Not talking about a schedule where you post your dentist appointment two weeks from now, but a hourly planning. )
Example.. my day plan:
02:55 — 03:30 get ready and breakfast
03:30 — 04:30 mathematics
04:30 — 05:30 physics
05:30 — 06:30 coding
07:30 — 09:00 gym
10:00 — 21:00 work* (this is broken down further but I wanted to keep it brief)
What happens when you run long?
If you make it binary, you can make a decision how you’re gonna handle every single one of those situations which means you don’t have to consider them individually every time.
Are you gonna run late, sacrifice some other thing?
Or are you gonna run late and move everything up? (This is what I used to do.. but you’re essentially enabling yourself to run late.)
Or are you gonna drop the thing that’s running late.. take ownership.. obey your schedule today and do it in your lunch time later that day? And plan tomorrow better. (This is what I do now. Kinda like High school. If you missed physics, you gotta go to mathematics and don’t be late next time.)
*This is just something I’m experimenting w. If you decide to implement it, I’m not responsible for the following:
- Bad results
- - Emotional damage
- - Mental damage
- - Physical damage
- - Child support
