Hustle
I can remember being told by my father to hustle my entire childhood and teenage life. He was the king of hustle. He had an office at the biggest sports field of the time in Denver where I spent the majority of my childhood as his sidekick. He, with a team of pros, brought the first professional baseball team to Denver. He also brought amazing people together and made things happen. I watched all of this happen while being told to I needed to hustle. Now, at 32 years old I’m finally starting to understand what he meant.
I was told that I had potential, the charisma and the moxie to make anything I wanted happen. At that point, I didn’t know what ‘it’ was. But I was built to know I could do ‘it’. What I was missing was the self confidence to follow through on my dreams and make them my reality. I needed to believe.
Now, I understand that hustle doesn’t just mean knowing the right thing to say at that right time. Or having an amazing idea and telling everyone about it.
Hustle means deciding on what you want and taking the action necessary to make it happen. Hustle means forgetting about your fear. Hustle means not being afraid of what could go wrong or what other people think. Hustle is believing in your self to the point that you will let nothing stop you or get in your way.
I have always known that I was different. That I was driven and that I had hustle. And now, I know how to apply it.
Everyday, I wake up ready to learn and take life in. I am excited to meet new people and find out what the future brings. I have dreams, a lot of dreams, and I’m not afraid to go after them and make them happen. And if they don’t happen, I know it’s ok since I have 20 more ideas lined up waiting for my time.
This is what hustle means to me. It means going after your dreams, not being afraid, and seeing what could happen.
So go out there and go after your dreams. Whats the worst that could happen? Nothing but a learning experience.
