How to switch off to get some new energy

When the yellow light lights up the person closest to the doors opens them up and looks down to see where we are are. You jump on green. Sometimes you do not see the ground at all so you go through the clouds and you trust the pilots that they did a good job using the GPS. In most of the cases it works well, but I have been already landing in corn fields, potatoes, wheat, rape (that hurts a lot!), in the water and once into a greyhound stadium few minutes before they the start.

I’m cleaning my head by jumping from a perfectly flying airplane. From 4 kilometers it is around 1 minute of freefall and a few minutes under the canopy. You land and then it starts all over again: pack the chute, watch the video, debrief the jump, plan a new one and up again. If it is good weather you can do 10 a day easily.

When something worries you, you keep waking up in the night, you think about it on the ground even in the airplane while going up — that takes 12 to 20 minutes. But once the door opens and you jump the next few minutes are there just for you. The brain somehow knows how to switch that off and gives you 100% concentration on what you are doing. It works like magic — can’t remember ever thinking about anything work related during free fall. Up there, it’s just you with a group of people at 150 miles per hour.

The parachute is no longer something that shall get you safely on the ground. It is a razor that cuts the air and swooping is a top discipline in this sport. Even after 15 years, this is something that allows me to go offline and clear my head.

Everyone relaxes from work in a different way. I like extreme sports so my way of digital detox is skydiving. It is my main sport that I still devote a lot of time to as a counterweight to the busy work life and something that helps me being more successful. I’m doing skydiving for many years now with about 3,000 jumps in total.
