Books to Read Before You Graduate College

As summer rolls along, many adolescents are enjoying their summer activities and having fun in the sun. Many of them are high school students, soon graduating and heading off to higher education. Others are already attending college, seeking their degree. Although summer is a great time to relax and take a break from education, it’s also a great time to catch up on reading. Whether you consider yourself a bookworm or not, here is a list of books that are great for any age, but perhaps meaningful to those on the cusp of adulthood.
“The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter and How To Make The Most Of Them Now” by Meg Jay
The title of this book says it all. Your twenties matter, and college is a great time to realize where exactly you are in life and where you want to go. This decade truly determines your future. The Defining Decade can help anyone emerging into adulthood.
“The Sun Also Rises” by Ernest Hemingway
As Ernest Hemingway’s first novel, “The Sun Also Rises” is a high quality, well-written novel for young adults to read. This gripping story will have readers journeying through the life of Jake Barnes and his love affair with Lady Ashley. This tragic story is a tremendous, yet heartbreaking read that has a sacred place in literature.
“One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
This fictional novel of a mythical town shares the rise and fall through a family living in the town. Literature experts claim that “One Hundred Years of Solitude” perfects the teaching of life and understanding. Although it’s not easy to read through to the end, it’s worth getting to the last page.
“This Side of Paradise” by F. Scott Fitzgerald
If you’re a millennial then you more than likely were forced to read “The Great Gatsby” at some point in your teenage years. While The Great Gatsby transports readers into the Jazz Age, “This Side of Paradise” highlights the true struggles of life after college.
