The Hockey Experience

Hockey has been a huge part of my life since I was very young. I can’t quite remember when I started watching hockey or how I got turned on to it. However, I can remember the first time I went to a Canucks game. My dad got tickets from work and it was against the Calgary Flames. The Canucks weren’t very good then so they lost but there are a few details that stand out for me. Todd Bertuzzi scored a goal, Bob Essensa was in goal, and Calgary was wearing their terrifying horse head sweaters. I can’t quite put a finger on why I remember these details but I do recall that once I had that experience I wanted it more. Over my life I have been to many Canucks game. I was at a pre-season game when the Queen dropped the puck; I was at Game 5 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals; I was at the game when Manny Malhotra was hit in the eye with a puck. It is a special feeling to look back and see the parts of sports history that you have experienced first hand.

Every game that I have attended, outside of that first game, the Canucks have come out with a win. I like to think of myself as a good luck charm and I firmly believe that it is in the Canucks best interest to bring me to as many games as possible. When I’m there they win. Bottom line. There is nothing quite like the experience of a Canucks game. I guarantee that even if you aren’t the biggest sports fan in the world, you will still enjoy going. It’s a show in itself and in my opinion is something everybody should experience at least once.
