How Wakelet is Changing the Way Travelers Share Their Adventures

If you haven’t heard of Wakelet yet, you’re in for a treat. Wakelet is the new social website that’s leaving a wake in the tides of the internet, but this social website isn’t just your average Twitter or Facebook, it can change the way you travel in an instant.

If you’re an enthusiastic traveler and you like to keep track of your expeditions with pictures, videos and maybe even a journal, Wakelet is the site for you. If you like to do research before taking your trip and learn about your travel destination, but you get frustrated with trying to aesthetically and efficiently compile your information, Wakelet is the site for you. Wakelet is a free visual content platform that allows you to create a “wake” to organize all your pertinent information, pictures, articles, videos and notes in one nifty place.

Wakelet takes the pain out of compiling information, so you won’t have to worry about posting your videos to Youtube, and then going to Twitter to tweet about your experiences, and then bookmarking a ton of links to share your experiences with everyone. Instead, you can simply create a wake and put everything all in one place.

There’s no need for one clunky and awkward file. Upload your videos, link your tweets, add the links to all the relevant articles, and keep it all in one site. Then you don’t have to worry about disorganized and misplaced bookmarks in your browser, nor do you have to get frustrated if you can’t recover the tweet you posted four days ago amongst all the other tweets. With Wakelet it’s all right there at your fingertips with just a few clicks.

So, if you’re already loving the idea of being able to create your own adventure and organize all the information you need right on a single site, then you might also love the idea of being able to look at wakes posted by other people. You can follow and like other travelers’ profiles and their wakes.

You’ll easily be able to see what they did and where they visited, or if they raved about a certain restaurant or attraction. All that information will help you plan your trip when you’re going to the same place. And if you’re a travel blogger the shared wakes make it amazingly easy to promote yourself, it’s practically a portfolio just for you! You can even embed the wakes on your blog or website, which will make it even easier to share your information.

Though Wakelet isn’t just for the outgoing users, each wake gives you the option to share it or to keep it private, so you don’t have to worry about sharing information with other people if you don’t want to.

This feature makes Wakelet a great website for compiling information on the download, so if you’re coming out with the next big thing and don’t want other people to notice the patterns in the information you’ve compiled, no worries!

A Little Bit About Wakelet

This wonderful new website isn’t just for travelers and tourists though. Wakelet can be used to compile any information, for anything. So, if you want to keep track of your favorite foods, or favorite sport you can do that on Wakelet too.

This website was created because Jamil Khalil wanted to put users back in control of the internet and the information on the internet. There is so much data available at our fingertips, but it isn’t organized for users in a friendly manner.

Instead, we type keywords into a search engine and look at the results of the algorithms. Then we have to sort through all of those algorithms find the information we want or need and separate it from the rest of the information ourselves. Whether we bookmark it, like it, “save for later” or copy the link into a document is up to us, but however we do it, is archaic. When we want to retrieve all of the little bits of information we saved we have to pour through tons of documents, pages, bookmarks or likes.

Currently, retrieving information is a seriously time consuming process. Khalil wanted to put the power back in the user, so he poured his time and energy into creating a website that will make it easier and more efficient.

If you’re starting to realize how effective this site could be for you, you’re probably wondering what you have to do to join, and for the purpose of investigation I signed up to find out. I discovered that Wakelet offers an easy sign up process, simply use your email and create a password, that’s it. Then you can start creating a wake, which is almost as straightforward as signing up.

First you add one to your profile, name it, and start creating it. You can either add links, upload pictures, link to videos or add notes. When you create a wake, it defaults to private so you don’t have to worry about posting sensitive information and forgetting to change the setting to private. While you’re searching through other people’s wakes if you find information that you like you can save it to your profile. This feature makes it so much easier to keep all your relevant information on your page without having to navigate to other sites or profiles to find what you found before.

But back to the point at hand, travelers are already using Wakelet to keep track of information about their travels. Whether they’re documenting their research or their experiences it has already proved to be a useful tool. So, pass the word along, Wakelet could save you a lot of time and effort.
