To Be A Product Manager | Day 47

This journal helps me improve 1% every day…

Welcome to Day 47 of

To Be A Product Manager

I felt terrible this morning waking up at 6:30AM, skipped the morning exercise and jumped into kitchen cooking myself a lunch and dinner, then went to the office.

3 meetings take my whole morning, then in the afternoon, I started writing my tasks for this week, and the expectations for what I’d learn from those. I was helping my mentor doing VR live streaming research, but then was asked to do a SDK research about VR livestream service.

I looked them up, and noticed there’re many tech specs in the SDK and API document, I guess what I need to do, is to translate them into features that can be easily understood.

1. Feeling Down

Starting from this weekends, I keep asking myself questions like:

Am I really enjoying my weekends?
Could it be more fun?

Because usually I still go to office on weekends. For me, I won’t work on weekends, but write or do some extra research I’m interested, and the network and VPN is way better than mine.

Some friends do suggest me to go to a tea shop or go climbing, and I haven’t tired those things yet. The problem is that I want everything I do and am going to do has an impact on my growth and development.

And when you say NO to those things, you also give up the opportunity to relax, which decays your productivity and mood eventually.

2. Be Proactive

This is actually more like a lesson I learned this morning from my mentor. When we were about to wrap up the meeting, he asked the engineering team leader:

Besides everything we discuss today, is there anything product team need to be prepared for the next month or 2 months?

This is a great question and a good reminder for me.

Always being proactive.

My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I’m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?

Thanks for reading and let’s keep on hacking!

Warm Regards,

be so good they can’t ignore you.
