After an epical set as the seasoned house music maestro left the stage with the following reaffirming and words and resounding statement, “Africa is the future.” The Misty which is the mecca of Jazz in Zambia made and continues to make statements such as these a reality, and hosting Black Coffee @RealBlackCoffee is testament to the fact that Zambia cannot be counted out when it comes to hosting international acts and world class events. Slow Clap to what was an awing event and well organized festivities hosted/Emceed by the K Smash aka Kalumba Chikonde, salute the visionary Misty CEO Ignatius and his team for making the entire situation butter, smoove as soya milk.

With 3 R&G Oktoberfests and a Jameson Livingstone Carnival and other notable gigs under his belt, Zambian deep house underground Dj and producer kicked off the proceedings with the force of a mule kick. Appareled in all black (and the brother is dark too *laughs*) with an undertaker brim hat, from the first note Dj Shotz meant business and by the last beat he left no doubt that he had handled business like a grown man. The set was as smooth as the Carling Blue Label that powered the event, a seamless blend of jams that kept the reveler on the moonlit dance floor.

So infectious were the boogie rhythms in the air that they got me in gyrate and fist pump mode too. An hour felt like five minutes, way to boot a show into life with a bang Dj Shotz.

Next on the set came a grizzly individual known as the Bear. Dutch aka Sebastian Dutch added his jolt of energy to the already potent situation with an indigenous set which included some of his own productions such as Kachanana’s award winning Ndipita and other tracks from his debut joint album with the late LBC (MHSRIP) Power Of The Drum. LBC was definitely present in spirit during this milestone event in his friends career and vicariously still exists through his music. The set by Dutch without a doubt added colour and that Zambian flavour to the proceedings of the evening and did Zambian house music proud. Big up bear man.

And then out of the fog came the main event with a live percussionist on stage, from the onslaught it was clear sensei was about to light up the open sky dojo. The set was Bruce Lee Enter The Dragon savage, the power of the music Black Coffee was strong as was Mbongeni Patsula Ziberli, on time with every beat on the bongos and various percussion, even the late Tito Puente would have been proud at the precision and skill on display. As all who where present I marveled as something apparitional was heralded, every note and beat piercing the very core of the soul. Music is indeed that salve that unites and brings an unspoken harmony a moment in time, Black Coffee and his comrade truly captured the moment with bold sounds. Oh yes We Danced Again too and the chart topping Alicia’s In Common ended the festivities on a high with a drop kick. Applause and “encore” came the shouts from the die hard fans who wanted more.

Sound Wave did the most with that stage and lighting, Fortress came through with that crisp footage as always. Shout out to the sponsors Carling Blue Label, South African Airways, Mojo Media and making us feel every moment DStv.

Thank you to Ignatius and the entire Misty staff for the first class treatment and all round service I’m always accorded, it is always a cordial occasion with the utmost mutual professionalism and respect. Catch Shotz causing more commotion at the Orange Tree along with his better half Deepa and Zambian-Greek but European based touring Dj fresh off his three day Zanzibar/Tanzania leg of the tour El Mukuka on 18th September 2016. Sebastian Dutch will also be on the decks at the Flying Fish Beach Festival on the 24th of September 2016 and the R&G Oktoberfest 7th and 8th October 2016 in Chisamba. House is alive and well is Zambia thanks to Shotz, Dutch and the visiting big hommie Dj Black Coffee who came through and did the most for one night only of house at The Misty. “Believe in your dopeness” is what the big hommie @RealBlackCoffee told me. I shall not falter.
