This week we began beta testing Zazu in Lusaka, at one restaurant, The Retreat at Roma Park. The Retreat will help us test our app, as well as give us critical feedback on how we can perfect the payments platform, capable of supporting businesses of all sizes looking to get paid digitally.

In order to make money simple for everyone, we have always been working towards:

  1. Making it impossibly simple for people to use and to have access to information on how financial services really work.
  2. Building financial service products that are responsive to consumer desires and needs, available on almost every existing device.
  3. Building financial service products that are smart and future looking, allowing people to save and do more with their money today and in the future.

Supporting local businesses to get paid online and to understand their financial lives better, is a no brainer for us. There are thousands of SME’s dotted across the country, with little to no digital presence, no POS (point of sale) machines and an existing customer base they have yet to tap into.

This beta testing will help us to understand how we can better develop and position Zazu to be the preferred wallet for any business in Zambia. We will then slowly add more businesses to the platform once we iron out our initial findings.

In the meantime, here is what you can already do during beta.

  1. Set up an account: You can set up your account in the app, adding your own KYC requirements using the camera function
  2. Wallet top-up: You can top up your wallet by depositing cash in one of our bank accounts, using the reference number shown to you in the app.
  3. Peer to Peer transactions: You can send to or receive money from another Zazu user. Free of charge.
  4. Purchasing goods: You can pay for food or drink from The Retreat, free of charge.
  5. Pay Bills: You can top-up your airtime from Airtel, MTN & Zamtel, (for yourself or someone else) pay for your electricity and pay your TV bill. Free of charge.
  6. See your spending: As you spend money, you can see an analysis that helps you understand where and how you are spending your money.

If you are interested in building or growing this platform, we would love to have your feedback. Click here to download for iOS, and here for Android.
