Every year, we witness innovative technologies disrupting sectors one after another. Last year, AR and VR businesses saw an incredible amount of funding from venture capital, due to its interesting properties for bridging digital and physical worlds to deliver an array of entirely new products and services.
Cappasity is introducing the first platform to leverage blockchain infrastructure for creating, selling and renting 3D content.
This is my Q&A with their Founder & CEO Kosta Popov.
How would you describe Cappasity to someone who’s never heard of the project?
Cappasity is developing the first decentralized content-oriented global 3D platform and ecosystem. The platform makes AR/VR/3D content generation and distribution easy, fast and accessible for both businesses and ordinary users as it provides participants with a convenient environment and all the necessary tools for fruitful interaction. The platform provides decentralized and trustless copyrights storage.
The 3D world is rapidly expanding. Today AR/VR technologies are used not only in the gaming industry, but also in e-commerce, art, education, medicine, and many others. However, in many industries AR/VR mass creation and distribution is limited due to the lack of compelling content, which is caused by its labour-intensive and time-consuming production, high cost and often disappointing quality. Cappasity addresses all these issues.
What is the utility value of CAPP tokens?
To support creation of the ecosystem, Cappasity is launching a utility token crowdsale. Cappasity utility token (CAPP) is issued as a digital payment vehicle that facilitates AR/VR/3D content exchange among the ecosystem participants from all over the globe. All payment operations will be conducted in CAPP within the ecosystem. By using tokens, the ecosystem participants can pay for 3D content database subscription, 3D content purchases at a seller’s price (for the content that is not included in the base), and 3D content rent for commercial purposes. CAPP will be also used to incentivize the most talented developers and active community members.
What kind of developments are planned over the next few years?
Our platform is already in operation. Our clients use CAPP to pay for the opportunity to create 3D images and embed they into their websites. We are actively developing the ecosystem around our platform and constantly add new technical features.
As for the roadmap implementation, we are planning to add new technical features, such as adding mobile capturing function to our mobile app, releasing capturing SDK for developers, launching marketplace, ARKit integration, 3D avatars, remeshing solution for AR/VR devices, remeshing solution for 3D printing, and Cappasity AI API. The latter will analyze the behaviour of potential consumers, how they interact with the product.
Are there any notable competitors in the field?
Cappasity is the first company that is developing a blockchain-based AR/VR ecosystem for 3D content exchange. We have found a way to address the industry’s creative content demand by creating a global environment allowing for quick and inexpensive production of high-quality content. The Cappasity ecosystem attracts the most talented developers and active community members and provides them with a convenient environment and all the necessary tools for fruitful interaction. We have created a necessary solution just in time to bring the development of AR and VR technologies to a new level of their development. Thus, we don’t see any notable competitors in the field.
What does Cappasity offer that they don’t?
Before Cappasity, 3D image creation process was time-consuming, complicated and not applicable to large catalogs. We offer users our solution that allows them to easily make 3D images of products and place them on their websites.
Cappasity is a company that has been successfully running its business for several years, constantly expanding, and has earned trust of many clients.
Each month the Cappasity platform serves more than 1M views of 3D content. Cappasity is actively used by various luxury brands. Some notable examples are — Jazmin Chebar and Claris Virot. The Cappasity’s platform will be utilized by 30 US educational institutions in 2018. Cappasity is a partner of Intel, Nvidia andlaunched their platform in China with the help of Alibaba team.
What are your team’s biggest threats and weaknesses and how do you plan to overcome them?
We have a very strong team of 26 people and we put tremendous effort into what we do. Perhaps, our biggest challenge is to maintain an adequate work-life balance.
