“Selling is not a pushy, winner-takes-all, macho act. 💪💰 It is an empathy-led 💙, process-driven ☑️, and knowledge-intensive 🧠 discipline. Because, in the end, people buy from people.” 🤝

Subroto Bagchi, Co-founder of Mindtree

I don’t think I could have said it better myself! Ditch the stereotype of the used car salesman in the bright-colored jacket with slick-back hair shouting at you on TV.

Forget the Gordon Gecko “greed is good,” phony-bologna, winner-takes-all, strong eats the weak approach to sales.

That’s a parody. It’s what a bad salesperson THINKS a great salesperson has to be like. Pop culture paints a picture of a salesperson which isn’t reality.

Perhaps, there was a time in the past when high-pressure, intrusive, and pushy tactics worked, and they may still work on some audiences. For example, we see charlatans and bottom-feeders hoodwinking people at “Sell Fests” all the time.

But, real lasting success is built on helping your prospects and customers, delivering on your promises, and operating with the intention to SERVE.

Really want people to “buy” or listen to what you have to say?

Then, show up with the determination to find the right solution or proper fit for your audience, even if it sometimes means referring them elsewhere rather than with the intention to sell.

Listen actively.

Listen to their thoughts, concerns, dreams, and desires with the aim of helping them find what they need rather than with a selfish hidden agenda, and you’ll become a trusted provider of value who wins.
