This article references methods for both PC and mobile devices. Please note that due to different versions of Discord and many different devices, the exact steps may differ.

After you verify on the discord server upon joining, it is highly recommended to turn off the setting to ‘Allow direct messages from server members.’ To turn off this setting, follow the steps below and disable the setting instead of enabling it.

Discord on PC

  1. At the bottom of all your channels, click on the ⚙ icon to open your settings.

2. Click on ‘Privacy & Safety’

3. Make sure ‘Allow direct messages from server members’ is checked (green).

If the setting was disabled and you just enabled it, click ‘Yes’ on the ‘Server Privacy’ message.

Discord on Mobile Devices

  1. At the bottom of all discord, click on your profile picture to open your settings.

2. Click on ‘Privacy & Safety’

3. Make sure ‘Allow direct messages from server members’ is checked (filled in with a solid color).

If the setting was disabled and you just enabled it, click ‘Yes’ on the ‘Server Privacy Defaults’ message.
