I’ve been saying this same thing in comments to writers on Medium again and again. The problem is particularly prevalent in the context of identity-politics writing, where people feel the need to show how angry they are by throwing in a gratuitous curse in every other sentence. Of course, the result is that these curse words are simply devalued as a means of conveying strong emotion. If everything is “fucking amazing” or “fucking awful,” then nothing is really all-that-amazing or awful anymore. What’s supposed to be a means of expressing strong emotion just turns into another tired cliche.
