Why This Radical Leftist is Disillusioned by Leftist Culture
Bailey Lamon

This articles makes some good points, but if we really want to get beyond the fixation on “safe spaces,” choices of nomenclature, trigger warnings and all the multifarious ways through which Western societies are waging a new war on tolerance, we’re going to have to grapple with the underlying issue, which is that there are many people trying to avail themselves of America’s history of slavery and Europe’s history of colonialism in order to induce guilt in the ruling classes of these societies and, as a result, make them willing accomplices in their own civilization’s unraveling. This other article discusses these issues in much more depth: https://medium.com/@Zoobahtov/enslaved-by-history-parasite-privilege-and-the-silenced-majority-98eeea6b6151#.fijtcu9p4. As a result, instead of moving forward, we keep circling back, focusing on past sins, debating whether or not this or that icon of the past (Cecil Rhodes, Woodrow Wilson, James C. Calhoun, the Confederate Flag) out to be removed and, in short, continually fighting the last war instead of the present one or the next one. Until we find a way of dealing with our history that acknowledges it without being enslaved to it (as the article I linked to discusses), we’re, unfortunately, going to remain a regressive rather than a progressive society, and opportunistic politicos like Hillary Clinton will be able to win elections over truly progressive candidates like Bernie Sanders by pandering to the most backward and ignorant members of our population in order to get them to vote against their own economic interests.
