5 MOBILE APPS EVERY NIGERIAN SHOULD OWN

  1. Shazam

For every time you’ve heard a song on the radio, at a party or in passing- and you just couldn’t figure out the title or the artist,- this is what Shazam is for. With the push of a button, Shazam listens to the music being played and tells you what the song is in a matter of seconds. It gives you even more details, the artist, the song title, accompanying album, production year lyrics, official music video and where to buy the song.

Shazam helps you build a music library. You can use the app without signing up but having an account guarantees that if you log in in any other device, your shazams will still be available to you.

The best part of Shazam is possibly that it works without internet connection. Whatever you have tag will be revealed to you when you’re back online. Pretty cool, no?

2. Naija Gossip

Believe it or not, Naija Gossip is a one-stop shop for well read blogs in Nigeria. There’s a live feed accessing a plethora of information from top blogs in Nigeria; Such as Linda Ikeji, Laila Ikeji, Naija Gists, Stella Dimokokorkus, Toke Makinwa, 360nobs, That1960Chick, Debbie Ibiyemi, Best of Nollywood, African Movie News… etc. The only problem with this app, clearly, is how much gossip can you handle?

3. WhatsApp

Most times people rather recharge their phones to buy data subscriptions than make phone calls to better enjoy the many social networks they are registered with and other data-enabled entertainment. More than other other messenger, Whatsapp takes away the need t multitask communication amongst your apps and centres it to one place where your phone number is all that is required. You can send messages, make audio calls and more recently, video calling.

4. Your Bank App

The best way to celebrate the digital age is by eliminating yourself from bank queues and avoiding the length and breadth of them. Most banks, if not all, have made this possible by creating app that permit you to make transfers and other third-party payments. If you use bank apps, feel free to tell us how much better your banking experience is.

5. Nailangs

UK based Nigerian, Adebunmi Adeniran, has developed a keyboard to support and enable writing at least 12 Nigerian languages correctly and applying correct signs Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Efik, Idoma, Hausa/Fulani, Tiv to mention a few and tone marks are at the ready to give instant meaning to the reader. NAILANGS keyboard allows you to type in English and it can be made a bilingual due to the nature of Nigerians who mostly speak more than a language. Isn’t that fun?
