If only I could bottle the drive from being inspired!
After leaving Connect 7 this week, a new networking night from a peer of mine. I felt like I could take on the world, my inner entrepreneur was bursting at the seams, ideas were pouring out of every cell, the feeling was immense… I couldn’t wait to get to work.
It was during this euphonic moment that I asked myself why couldn’t I always feel like this?
How do I maintain this feeling of excitement and drive, the belief that anything is possible if I truly want it??
Now I’m sure everybody gets inspired from time to time and feels unstoppable, but me I crave it. I realised I’m a fiend for the high. I wish I could simply bottle it and take a swig when ever my drive is low, which if I’m honest is more often than I would like.
At that moment my mind was at its most creative point, bubbling over with ideas and plans that I could do to reach my dreams. The feeling was so good, I wanted to and had to share it with anybody that would listen. I tweeted about it, I sent What’s App messages, hell I even started writing this post on my journey home.

I was desperate to document this because the truth is, in a few hours or maybe tomorrow morning this feeling and euphoria would probably of slipped away.
The source
The beautiful thing about inspiration is it can come from anywhere, a smell, a chance meeting, a totally unrelated subject a myriad of things can trigger an idea or get you motivated to follow through on a goal.
Mine came from a simple story from Del Titus Bawah (a partner and founder at Crowdmix a new music startup) about customer service and not judging a book by its cover…
In a nutshell Del described how he built a relationship with his future mentor by simply offering him good customer service as a teenager working in retail.
The building of this relationship led to Del mentor offering him a job shadowing him in his property investment comapny and eventually managing his £200 million portfolio.
It’s funny what inspires people, I know a lot of people and for good reason were inspired by the amount of money that Del had raised and the lifestyle that he had attained.
However what really made a mark on me was the path which led to the chance meeting that changed his life.
Del story illustrated that anything could happen if you enter into every situation with the right attitude.
If you have a vision of what you want to do then be open to the possibilities. The way that your vision manifest itself might not always be clear, but it will only happen if you are ready, if you have the right attitude and mindset.
Del story may seem like a once in a lifetime scenario but the fact is Del already had the mindset, attitude and willingness to learn that would propel him to the very top!(Del shared another story, on how he applied continously for over a year for his then retail job, until they finally gave him an interview).
Del simply served a customer that the other assistants in his store shunned, simply because their perception was that he wouldn’t be able to afford the product. That is such a telling part of the story for me it shows you, you never know who you are talking to.
It shows you that building a relationship with someone can lead you on a life-changing path. It shows that the right attitude and vision will open doors for you that you only dreamed about.
Too many people ruin or miss future opportunities because they want everything right away. Networking is not about the night or day you meet someone, its about the continued mutual building of a relationship.
It’s been a few days since the event now and the embers of inspirations are getting low, however the lessons learnt are still burning bright, who knows where they will take me.
