Please shut your unrefined mouth
Just shut it for the good of humankind
Today is just one of those days. I want to scream in anger at everyone who surrounds me for over a thousand different reasons, yet, because I was raised to be polite I sit here fuming in silence instead. If I could, I would tell you what I think, word after word in a slow and distinct tone so as you could not possibly misinterpret what I am saying. I would not let you say, speak, mumble, or even utter a single sound, whilst I dictate my epic monologue describing all manners of how you frustrate the living daylights out of me.
I would tie you up in a chair, just like they do in those mafia movies, with your mouth tapped shut as a precaution to any rebuttal you may feel you need to express. For your opinion is not needed at this moment in time. I have listened to you for minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months to the words spilling from your unfiltered mouth. You have made your opinion well known, not only to me but to all those who sit around you. I have sat here, listening and fuming, fuming and listening. Day in. Day out.
But today, no more. No more of those uncultured derogatory words. No more selfish opinions to be expressed. No more of you talking over the top, raising your irritating voice so that your inarticulate useless words are the loudest in the room. Honestly, I am sitting 2 feet away from you, it is not necessary. But nevertheless, today is the day I say No More!
But alas, today is and always will be just like every other day. I will sit here and listen (and fume) to your words. Those words that disgust me. I will nod in acknowledgement instead of wasting my energy in yet another rebuttal.
But why you ask. Why do I allow these words of such vulgarity to continue to be spoken. Alas, the answer is simple.
I was raised to be polite.
I was taught that politeness stems from abstaining from confrontations. Politeness is defined through the allowance of others to speak their mind, even when it does not reflect your beliefs. For to be polite, you must not be inconsiderate of others. Allow them to speak with crudeness but never allow that crudeness to be from your mouth.
For if you do sink to the level of those whom have tasteless manners, then you are no better than those who you despise.
Being polite, in this modern day and age is so rarely seen, that to be unique you must stick to your morals. Smile and nod, yes please sir, no thank you ma’am. Such simple words will catch your audience by surprise.
Alas, I would rather silently fume with a smile on my face for you than to speak words of your comprehension.
