In a significant development for Zambia’s energy sector, Dalbit International and BSL Infrastructure have officially handed over the Chipata Fuel Depot to the Zambian Government. This state-of-the-art facility, capable of storing over 7 million liters of fuel, promises to substantially improve the fuel supply across the Eastern Province and contribute to regional development.

Constructed as part of the Zambian government’s 7th National Development Plan, the Chipata Fuel Depot is designed to address and rectify the persistent challenges of fuel supply in the region. By updating and expanding the energy storage infrastructure, the depot will help stabilize fuel prices and availability in the Eastern Province and beyond.

The project, managed by Dalbit International as the main contractor with BSL Infrastructure as the sub-contractor, marks a milestone in Zambia’s infrastructure development. The facility is managed by Tazama Pipelines and aligns with national efforts to ensure a steady supply of petroleum products and build up strategic fuel reserves.

Dalbit International and BSL Infrastructure are not new to such undertakings; their commitment to Zambia’s growth is evident in their track record of constructing seven fuel depots since 2013, increasing the country’s fuel storage capacity by over 60 million liters. The Chipata project, completed without any workplace injuries, employed 250 local workers, showcasing the firm’s dedication to community involvement and local development.

Beyond infrastructure, Dalbit and BSL Infrastructure have also been actively involved in community support initiatives. These include significant donations towards health and safety in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and contributions to local hospitals for pediatric care.

Mabvuto Nyirenda, Executive Director at Dalbit International and BSL Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in this success. He stated, “This depot is not just about providing fuel. It’s about fostering sustainable development through improved infrastructure and community engagement. We are proud to contribute to Zambia’s growth and look forward to continuing our efforts in enhancing the nation’s energy sector.”

Conclusion:
The Chipata Fuel Depot is set to revolutionize the way energy is stored and distributed in Zambia, paving the way for a more efficient and reliable fuel supply. This project exemplifies how strategic partnerships and forward-thinking investments can create lasting benefits for both the economy and the communities they serve.
