Windows/Linux: Ctrl+B Mac: Cmd+B

Functionality

This is straight forward.

This will toggle your sidebar open or closed.

When you have your editor on a low resolution screen, or you simply want more real estate to play in, this is a must use shortcut.

No longer will you have to move your mouse to the sidebar and click to toggle it opened or closed. You have unlocked the ability to expand whenever you want!

My Favorite Use Case

All The Space!

There’s really only one use case.

Either you want to see the sidebar or you don’t.

Try to make it a habit to toggle it off at all times, and only open it when you are utilizing the tools in the sidebar.

When you do this you will learn to utilize this shortcut very quickly!

Focus!

I have a love/hate relationship with shortcuts. I love using them, but only if I already know them. Taking the time to learn new shortcuts can be painstaking, so I try to take them on one at a time.

The lists that give you “Top 25 VSCode Shortcuts You Should Be Using!” are overwhelming, so I’m going to try and give you one a day to focus on.

Intentional practice creates more likelihood that you’ll use this for more than just today. Let’s go for mastery and long-term usage!
