Humble Beginnings

They say you’ve gotta start somewhere… Whether it’s in High School during your first drama play where you realized your passion for acting, or whether it was giving up your true dream because you’re a realist so you teach it instead.

Dreams are what make the world go round.

Some people dream about their career as an actor, some people dream of fame and others just dream of being happily married with little mutts running behind the white picket fence.

My dream- is a little more far-fetched.

This year, I’ve decided to follow my heart. My love for fashion has always been a constant presence within my life. From dancing with my Aunt when she dressed me in her wigs and sunglasses at age three — to rummaging through my mum’s endless supply of heels; fashion has always been a priority in my family life.

Fashion is seen to be hyper-feminine and anti-masculine, and as a twelve year old boy growing up in a catholic family in Melbourne’s inner-western suburbs it can be life threatening to be separated from the crowd or to be seen as different. So I rejected my passion for most of my life and forced myself to embrace my more masculine side.

Now, almost eight years later, I’ve finally accepted where I’m going in life and how I’m going to succeed.

I’ve decided to be involved in the fashion industry. Whether it’s writing for Vogue, Cosmopolitan or some other magazine; or working as a designer for Marc Jacobs or even creating my own fashion label. I’ve accepted where I want to be.

To anyone who reads this — live your life for yourself. Accept who you are and own it because nobody can dictate how you live your life or what you want to do with it.

Good luck.
