I don’t agree that even though you or I came across these sorts of examples and learned the techniques anyway confirms the idea that the examples work.
Teaching using examples that you cant apply to real-world problems isn’t really teaching anything. Tutorials should strive to show how things work, and explain how to also use it in the real world. Just explaining the bare basics and letting the student “to figure the rest out by himself” is just laziness and adds to the noise that makes it harder for someone trying to learn by themselves.
The reason I wrote this article because I was frustrated with the same advice being given that I came across. I never understood the concepts from the animal examples.
