On Sleep
The rhythm of life, the eb and flow of the day, the ticks of the clock or the months of the calendar, the early morning alarms and rush hour commutes or the holidays and anniversaries, beginnings and endings and spaces in-between. Repeat.
The commonalities of our collective experiences begin to fracture, the algorithms sort us into ever finer demographic pools of interests and addictions, the innovators become early and then late adopters, the student becomes a teacher, the insomniac’s sleep shifts from late to early in the day. Evolve.
Sometimes, just sometimes, those of us from different silos may cross paths. The bookworm and the artist may compare notes of inspiration, or a contagious yawn. The early and late riser a coffee and a smile. Depart.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul. — Psalm 23
