The problem with ‘going with the flow’

One thing I’ve discovered is that life has a tendency to place you in a perfectly mis-suited environment unless you actively seek to find where it is you can thrive — the problem with ‘going with the flow.’

In his final season as head coach for the Florida Gators, Steve Spurrier, aka the Old Ball Coach, used a gimmick to instill a message to his team. At the end of every practice at the swamp, he played to the team the same country song. Once you hear the song it’s actually kind of funny to picture these 300 pound linemen, after a long practice in the Florida sun, getting crooned by Lee Ann Womack with a song whose music video features ballerinas and dancing children — not exactly what you would expect for a football team’s rallying cry.

Lee Ann Womack — I Hope You Dance

The point of the song is simple, straight forward, and clear. When life passes you that microphone, when your favorite song comes on the radio, you can either sit back and take it all in as a spectator, or you can sing and dance along and hopefully make a little music of your own in the process.
