Is our first look at Wyatt Russell on set for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier giving us hints that his character is stealing the shield from Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson?

As Marvel Studio’s Disney+ limited series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gets the ball rolling with filming, a new face makes an appearance on set that has gotten Marvel fans buzzing. The two namesakes of the series will be joined by a new face to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU); Agent John Walker.

In April 2019, Disney officially announced that Marvel Studio’s characters Bucky “the Winter Soldier” Barnes and Sam “the Falcon” Wilson would be getting their own six-episode series on Disney’s new streaming service. By August, the cast list had been announced and fans were excited to see familiar names like Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie returning as their respective characters. However, there was a new name on the roster that the MCU had never seen before; Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

Any and all leaked set pictures have been thrilling to finally see, and fans are doing everything they can to get their eyes on these characters they love. After the on-screen loss of Chris Evans’ beloved Captain America in Marvel’s 2019 film Endgame, people were anticipating the rise of Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the new Captain America; as per Evan’s character’s last request. However, seeing Russell on set, adorned with the Captain America uniform and holding the shield proudly, certainly raises some eyebrows.

Russell’s character was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1986, as “Super Patriot.” He was an antagonist at first, but later on in the comics he replaces Captain America as the token United States “government-sanctioned superhero.”

Without a definitive plot released yet for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there is no telling how John Walker will fit into Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson’s stories or what kind of conflict he will cause. We will just have to wait until the release of the show to find out.
