Our work with Playdagogy
Playdagogy uses an evidence-based methodology to engage children creatively in recognising, understanding and addressing social issues through participation in sport. The team are part of Cambridge House (www.ch1889.org), who are a social action centre that work locally in Southwark, and nationally, to tackle poverty and address social injustice.
The Integrate Movement ran a workshop with the Playdagogy team to help facilitate a discussion about how they could apply their model in the context of mental health. The team worked with TIM to develop the content of the workshop, which resulted in the following delivery:
1. Defining Mental Health
2. Understanding the key psychological theories and models that inform MAC-UK’s work
3. Introduction to INTEGRATE
4. Exploration of the link between Mental Health and sport: Theory and Practice
5. Using as Asset Based approach
6. Developing Playdagogy for Mental Health
We really enjoyed meeting the Playdagogy team and would like to thank them for making the workshop interactive, thoughtful, and a great space to learn from each other and share ideas. We were fortunate to have three of the new youth consultants from MAC-UK co-deliver the workshop. They all provided an excellent insight into what young people’s experiences, and understanding of, mental health are. They also supported the Playdagogy team to think about how to involve young people in their work more widely.
We wish the Playdagogy team the best of luck with developing their Mental Health sessions and look forward to hearing about how they went.
Here is a quote from the team about their experience of the day:
‘Working with The Integrate Movement was an incredibly useful and enlightening experience. They helped us to explore the complexities of mental health and the important role that sport can play in addressing issues and opening up dialogue among young people.
Through an interactive, research-based approach The Integrate Movement supported us to lay the foundations for the development of our new Playdagogy Mental Health & Wellbeing project and we’re very excited to take this learning forward.’
