This Morning

This morning I carefully measured each gram of Ethiopian arabica and gently baptized the coarse grounds in water.

The delicate aroma conjured ancestral memories of abuela’s colador, galletas Maria, and my mother’s morning prayer routine.

On my way to work, a scattering of Egrets, a flock of Geese, and a mossy pine greeted me as I savored the sweetness of the sun-dried coffee.

Each inspiring a sense of wonder.

Each, in a unique way, breathing admiration and thanks.

Perhaps, this morning, I prayed too.
