Anti-Social

People who are anti-social often come off as rude, weird or awkward (rude mostly). That’s not always the case. The issue is they don’t have a correct response to someone or something. You ask them how they are feeling? They’ll reply with good and then shut up. They won’t go on blabbering about things that don’t matter (unlike me in this post). I too am a part of this herd. We go to lengths to avoid social situations which make us uncomfortable, which are almost all social gatherings. We are the happiest people on Earth when a plan gets cancelled. We’d rather sit in front of our laptop all day than stand in a pub in the corner. Small talk is our biggest enemy and comfort zone is our paradise.

How do people develop such anti-social behavior? What influences them to adopt such a behavior? I have a theory, and bear with me here. I think, we inherit our anti-social or social behavior from our parents. We don’t realize the impact parents have on our lives. We grow up in their environment. We look up to them — even if we don’t admit it. Their slightest doings stay in the back of our mind like an ear worm and keep growing as we grow older.

My parents are quite anti-social. They just have a couple of friends whom they rarely meet. Their day starts with work and ends with sitting half-asleep in front of the TV. I’d like to think that I’ve inherited my introvertedness from them. I found out that this “theory” is not just true for me. I have a friend whose parents are the most fun people I’ve met for someone their age, and my friend is one of the most fun people I’ve ever known. Inheritance. I sometimes wonder what it’s like to be in such a family, to be surrounded by such fun people all the time. This theory doesn’t work for just two or three families. I researched a bit among my friend circle and found out that it works in almost all families. In the end, we all can do our bit for the society by having a better impact on children by example.
