One data point is not enough. You need to watch them code. You need to look at learning trajectory. How much do they know and how long did it take them to learn it? You need to know if they have soft skills, and if they’ll be excited to work on the projects.

If you’re hiring for a senior role though, if they don’t know closures, that’s definitely a red flag.
