Totally legit issue. I agree with most of your points wholeheartedly. I just didn’t agree with the way you made it sound like PWA’s are DOA because Apple isn’t 100% on board. They’re about 90% there, but the 10% remaining is really important to create a totally seamless user experience.
I think we’re mostly on the same page — we just draw different conclusions re: what to do about it.
If 80%+ of my target users were iOS users, I’d pick React Native, too.
But your users aren’t my users, and they’re probably not representative for all the possible apps out there. Nearly 50% of my app traffic comes from outside the US, and over 60% of my mobile users come from Android, and just under 50% come from the web.
Lots of startups don’t have the budget to create 2-3 separate apps (web, iOS, Android), so for people in that boat, building a native app for iOS is a nice-to-have feature after they pick up traction with a PWA.
React Native is cool, and I think it has a ton of potential. What about using React Native to build a PWA with React Native Web? =)
