Curious to see that there are many similar quotes & interviews from https://vishakhachaman.wordpress.com/2015/04/15/all-is-not-well-at-auroville/ . All the problems cited above are common to most human organisations. When Ms. Alfassa conceived this idea, she was around to pick those who could & couldn’t be part of the township. Today, the process sounds by vote — if most other Aurovilleans like you, you are likely to be a fit in the township. Most for-free initiatives have failed in this country. If Auroville had been for free, it would have failed much faster than the rate we see today.
The goals were specific to Ms. Alfassa’s vision. With her, the discrimination of what is in alignment with those goals or not, was lost. Most well-meaning Aurovilleans simply carry their specific connection to the 2 founding seers as well as their sense of good intention & excellence. I wish this article had presented the excellence that has also been achieved & not merely dwell on the “failure”. That would have been a balanced perspective allowing the reader to gauge if this would be possible elsewhere.
