Why I Started ProductManagerJobs.com

I’ve been in the “Product” world for over half a decade now.

Before that I was an Engineer, working in an engineering environment and then when I gained enough experience, I moved to become a consultant in the industry. At some point, I woke up and saw that many others were still there, in the same role, in the same industry many decades later and I didn’t want to be typecast that way.

Naturally, I looked further afield.

I didn’t have any transferable skills that were readily transferable anyway.

I was stuck.

And then I heard a podcast and before long was on the journey into Entrepreneurship. I figured that if other employers weren’t able to hire me right away (and rightly so) I needed to create an opportunity for myself.

The rest is my journey into Product Management.

I founded this app, it gained traction and frankly the niche was too small for me to move and scale this anything beyond a lifestyle business. (The jury is still out on this by and large.)

I then decided to pivot back into a “job” and wanted to use the skills I learned to build and grow an app to support others to do the same. I was still in the same industry, the same profession.

I freelanced a bit. I created apps that were “Uber for XYZ” and shipped things that had hardware and firmware.

When I left freelancing and started to look for a full-time job, I found that even with a product background, it was hard to find product manager jobs.

If you’re a product person seeking a job you’ll know what I mean.

Type in “Product Manager” and you’ll find at least 30% of the jobs are not relevant to the jobs we want which are for digital products.

The ambiguation is frustrating.

To not go insane, you type in “Product Owner”. Then you type in “Product Lead”. You try all sorts of things but nothing really prevails.

People just don’t know how to lock down what a product manager title is or is not. Probably one of the many reasons why we are attracted to this profession is because of the blurring of boundaries we can navigate in.

So, in a nutshell, that’s why I started ProductManagerJobs.com.

ProductManagerJobs.com is a place where you know you can find only product jobs, only for product people and caters to that audience exclusively. This is not a place for product designers, or product specialist. This is a place where every, single job is a true product role.
