The Next Obesity Epidemic
Mike Sturm

If I’m interested in the topic, I’ll spend a few minutes finding a more well-written piece on that topic. Is that elitist? I don’t think so. I just don’t want to give my attention to someone who didn’t bother to try to effectively communicate to me.

I disagree and I will illustrate why with an admittedly extreme example. What if someone has a unique original idea that would bring world peace, or cure cancer and they wrote about it. Unfortunately they never received proper education and therefore can’t use proper spelling and grammar. If everyone would skip articles like that, the brilliant idea would be lost. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. A chunk of dirt may be nothing more than that, or there could be a diamond underneath if you wipe away and look past the dirt.

On a similar note, think of all the potential brilliant artists or scientists in the world who will never discover and develop their talents because they have to spend all their time doing mundane work just to survive. Where would we be if all those people got the chance they need?
