Don’t join the NRA but you should still consider arming yourself with a firearm. As a responsible U.S. citizen, the hope is that should this citizen choose to carry a self-defense weapon, a firearm in this case, that it wouldn’t coerce this person into going out and using it as an assault weapon.
The problem with “gun violence” is the same problem as with any other violence out there, be it: emotional violence, physical violence, etc. It’s not the method for which the violence is carried out but by who it is carried out.
Bar fights happen but that circumstance doesn’t make us want alcohol violence to be banned. Should one have to pass a background check, tested for mental health stability, and then be issued a license or permit in order to drink? Its a straw-man argument which points to the problem; not the method but the person/people/system/institution behind the violence.
