I THOUGHT RACISM WAS A THING OF THE PAST IN THIS COUNTRY. I WAS WRONG.

The word “racist” gets thrown around a lot these days. To be clear, I think we can all agree that real racism should mean a pre-meditated action taken by a group or an individual that seeks to exclude, harm or denigrate people specifically because of their race.

It’s dangerous to overuse the words racism and racist. By doing so we create a fog of meaning wherein we become blind to true racist action.

True racist action, such as the following:

I naively thought that racism on this scale was a thing of the past. That appears to not be the case and we as society still have much work to do.
