Ed Brubaker
Ed Brubaker is a renowned noir writer who has been writing detective fiction for the past two decades. He has written many acclaimed graphic novels and has also been responsible for creating some of the most iconic characters in DC Comics history. His stories often feature flawed characters that are struggling against their demons and fate to survive. Brubaker’s ability to craft stories that evoke a strong sense of emotion, as well as his flair for creating complex and intricate plots, makes him one of the best noir writers of our time.
After reading the Criminal series by this author, I instantly became a fan of his noir writing style and narrative. His flawed characters are deeply inspiring and his writing ability to portray their emotions is simply outstanding. With each page turned, I felt as if I was living through the lives of these characters and understanding their emotions in every situation.
I am extremely pleased to have come across this author’s work and look forward to reading more of his novels in the future. His novels are unique in that they capture both the bleakness of crime, while also highlighting the humanity behind it all. It has been a pleasure becoming a fan of this author, and I look forward to exploring more of his writings soon!
Night Fever is a change of pace for Brubaker and Phillips, who have spent a good portion of the pandemic era on Reckless, a pulpy detective series that now spans five graphic novels. That series is grounded in reality and history, with the duo researching historical photos of Los Angeles to get the tiniest of details right. Night Fever, meanwhile, is set in an unnamed European city. The duo isn’t worrying about specifics so much.
“I really wanted to do something a bit weirder and less grounded,” says Brubaker, while Phillips, who is British, was excited to do something not set in the United States. As reported in the Hollywood Reporter.
Ed lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their crazy dog, where he works in comics, film, and television, most recently on HBO’s hit series WESTWORLD.
