According to the most recent inspection conducted by The New York State Department of Health, there are 27 restaurants that deliver through UberEats that have food safety violations in Hempstead, New York.

In Nassau County, the food delivery app can be very appealing for many college students that attend nearby institutions. With their drop off fees ranging from 99 cents to $3.99, UberEats offers frequent users deals on prospective orders based on their usage.

Restaurants that use the UberEats app had a total of 149 violations with 21 of them being critical. The most prominent violations were: delivery of food from an approved source (1H), cross-contamination (2C), toxic chemicals not being properly labeled (4A), food not stored at or below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (5A), meals not cooled by an approved method (5B), and food not stored under proper refrigeration (5C).

Here’s an interactive map that shows diners with food violations that use UberEats in Hempstead:

The eatery with the most reported violations within the city was Wonder Pizza with a total of 19. Checker’s slogan is “Crazy good food” and the hamburger joint seems to uphold its standard. You may want your next order to be at that drive-thru because it only had one violation in total.

Topping the list was not labeling toxic labels (4A) with four violations. Brother Robinson Soul Food, Homemade Taqueria, Jalapeño Grill, and Wonder Pizza were all facilities that obtained this violation.

If you are all about cleanliness, then pay attention to 3B. This inspection code means that employees did not wash their hands after completing a task like smoking or using the restroom. Pollo Campero was the only diner with this violation.

Hempstead may have a lot of violations, but what are the statistics like for another city that uses UberEats? The bar graph below shows Garden City’s results compared to Hempstead’s most prominent violations:

The neighboring town of Garden City had a total of 51 critical violations. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and Havana Central had the most reports with 11.

Although Garden City received two more inspection violations (5C) than its sister city, overall, the upscale town had a lower rate of violations that were prominent in Hempstead. Some of their violations included: water or ice is considered unsafe (1B), shellfish not from an approved source(s) (1F), workers do not use proper utensils to reduce bare hand contact (3C), and employees not washing their hands after conducting personal activities (3B).

Violation code 1F came in first place with six cases divided between Havana Central and Tocolo Cantina.

These violations may raise a few eyebrows, both the cities scored “not a critical violation” on their insect and rodent sightings within their facilities.

Since the routine inspections will resume in January next year, it would be in the best interests of these restaurants to eliminate these violations at their facilities in order to better comply with the health and safety code inspections.

All of the data used was taken from the 2019 inspections conducted by The New State Department of Health. From the database, the results were downloaded in an Excel file and were filtered to all critical violations within Nassau County. The data was then narrowed down to Hempstead and cross-referenced with the UberEats app to reflect all the restaurants that utilize their services. After condensing the findings to display the most recurring results with critical violations, an interactive chart was made to pinpoint the locations of the restaurants.
