It is admirable to know that Dipolog has a diverse culture of different settlers from all over the Philippines. There are Muslims, Lumad, and Christians living together in that part of Mindanao. But how does the Mayor minimize, if not put an end, to prejudices and biases among the tri-people of Mindanao? Dipolog owns a unique festivity called “Pasalabuk Festival” to address this problem.

In order for the tri-people to coexist in harmony regardless of differences, the city thought of something that will showcase the cultures of different ethnic groups. They called it Pasalubuk Festival which promotes togetherness among its peoples. Other than food, street dancing, as a cultured presentation is one of the festival’s events. The Dipologons flock the streets with a big smile, despite the heat of the sun, to join and experience the festivities.

The Pasalabuk festival may not be the complete answer to maintain tranquility and togetherness in Dipolog but it surely brings equality to Muslims, Lumads and Christians. I wish that there are more festivities like this in Mindanao where we can witness the presentation of diverse cultures and understand them well. In order to eliminate or minimize biases and prejudgments, a dialogue among the tri-people should be included in these festivities. This way they can discuss their problems and help each other to solve them, promoting peace and unity.
