Pixar in a Box — Storytelling
Ex. 1: Expressing Memories
Part A: Think of a memory that your remember vividly. It should be a memory that comes easily to you.
Part B: Why do you think you remember this so well? Try connecting one or more emotions to this memory.
A: I think that I remeber this memory so easily, because it was one of the times I laugh so hard that I had to go to the bathroom and I cried. Joy was the emotion that govern in that moment, I felt very happy and comfortable there on the table of my house with my best friends, just chilling.

Part C: Now try and express your memory and emotion in some way. The goal is to get it out of your head. Here are some ideas for what you could do. Writing up your memory in less than a page. Do the emotions come out in your words?
A: I remember one time my best friends that are twins, where in my house eating and chilling. It sounds normal for a day of a teen, but what make it special were the events that happen during the day, that lead us to laugh so hard and cause some little accidents, and make us laugh more. And like that, the cycle never seemed the end. The first event was when we were with other friends, in the movies seeing Capitain American: The Winter Soldier. Suddenly, one of my friends sneeze, when everyone was quite because it was an intense scene. We just laugh quietly, but it wasn’t until the movie ended and we go to my house, that she tell us the more awkward part of it. When she sneezed, accidently some snods scape from her nose! It was so accurate and funny, that her sister and I started laughing. When we calm down a little, we sit on the table to eat, but we starting making fun of my friend’s situation and we busrt out laughing again. We try to eat, but obviously we can’t. And when I tried to drink, I choke and cough. When I finally could breathe, we start laughing again, now making fun of the revenge I recived from mocking of my friend. But then, her sister drank milk, and as we were still laughing, she try to swallow, but she spill it… But it came out from her nose! I swear I never laugh so much in my life. I felt so happy and comfortable because, this kind of things just happened with them. And I’m more than glad to have this little moments that are a big laugh, with them, with my best mates.
Exercise 2: Your three favorite films
Part A: Identify the three films that you would take to a deserted island….
A: 10 things I hate about you, White Chick and Mulan

Part B: Why do you think you connected with these stories? Come up with at least one reason for each.
A:
- 10 Things I Hate About You, is one of my favorites romantic comedy movies of all time. It’s funny, romantic, and emotional. I have seen it at least 10 times and I never get bored of it! It’s one of the movies that I see it, and each time, I feel like if it is the first time I see it.
- The next movie, I have watch it also a lot of times, and it always makes me laugh. I would say is my favorite comedy movie. And it’s White Chicks.
- Meanwhile, Mulan, is a movie I watch since I was a little kid and I syill love it. Her songs are so catchy, cool and some emotional. It brings to me many emotions, but as well like a feeling to fight for what you want, not because you’re a woman, you can’t let the society decide what to do. You can go to war and fight for your country, demostrating we are as strong as them, we are equal.
Part C: What, if anything, do these three films have in common? How are they different?
A: They all have one thing in common, a very important aspect of all these movies. Lies. They all lie in a way or another, but without it, it wouldn’t be a problem or plot. But as well they all have different contexts. 10 Things I Hate About You is about a guy that wants a girl, so he and his friend created a twisted plan so they get another guy to date the girl’s sister, because his father doesn’t let one go out, if the other doesn’t go. But the girl’s sister and the other guy fall in love and they all get into a mess all because of the lies. White Chicks is about two FBI african american agents that are gonna loose their jobs, so they decide to help transport some girls to a hotel for a mission. But then a accident happens, and they pretend to be those girls for a weekend, so the chief doesn’t discover their mistake. But the girl’s world it’s so different and hard for them. Still you got a good time laughing. Then, but not least, Mulan, a movie of one of the disney princess, even though she’s never an official princess on the movie. This is about a girl that decide to go to war pretending to be a boy, taking the place of his father to protect him. But as well is hard for her, trying to get undercover so nobody discovers she’s a girl.
Exercise 3: What if…

Part A: Return to your 3 favorite films and try reframing each of them in terms of a “what if” statement. Share these with someone (written or verbally) and see if they can guess what movie it is from!
A: What if the school’s rebel guy is payed to go out with the most hated girl on school, so her sister can go out with the pleyboy and most popular boy on school or with the new and unpopular kid?
What if two FBI african american agents are screw up, and the only way they don’t loose their job is to pretend to be some rich, vain and pretentious white girls for a weekend?
What if a girl decides to scape from her house to enrolled to be a soldier illegally, to protect her father and honored her family?
Part B: Now it’s your turn. Come up with 3–5 of your own “what if” ideas.
A:
- What if a guy falls down in love with a girl that is in illegal fights, and acts like a badass, but she’s just scared to let people to really know her because she doesn’t want to hurt or dissapoint annyone?
- What if four girls enrolled to war for different reasons, but they all were lost and broken inside?
- What if three best friends won a reality TV music competition, but when launching their career, they released it wasn’t what they expected, they are having really bad times, and they have to pretend everything is fine?
- What if a girl goes in a exchange for a year to study on England, where she doesn’t know anybody and really wishes she found someone to have a lovestory as the ones she readed in books?
Exercise 4: Characters & Worlds

Mulan — Mulan and Mushu - Is there a character you identify with most?

A: 10 Things I Hate About You —Pauda High School, Seattle in the 90's
White Chicks — Hampton Hotel
Mulan — China, during the Han dynasty ( 206 BC–220 AD)
Part B: Try mixing a character and world from different movies. Try this a few times and see what happens.
A: Mulan is a new exchange girl that pretengs to be a boy in the Pauda High School.
Or Kevin is a boy that doesn’t wants to enrolled for war to protect her country (China), so he pretends to be a girls.
Or Patrick Verona is the most rebel guy in the rich society, and at the weekend at the Hamptons, he always play cool, do what he wants, not caring about the other.
Part C: Return to your three “what if” statements from the previous exercises. Pick your favorite one. Can you imagine a possible character and world?
A: Statement 2: What if four girls enrolled to war for different reasons, but they all were lost and broken inside?
A possible character: A woman around 20’s enrolled to be soldier to go to the war, because she promised her father to do it before he died.
Possible world: a futuristic world around the universe, some gallaxies are alies with each other and they are in war.
Part D: Draw or write about what life would be like in this world.
Each gallaxy has it’s own regime. They all try to sustain there people, so each planet of a gallaxy has certain resources, so that’s why, there are alliances between them, so they can survive. So if you are specialized on something, you usually go to live to the planet is in charge of that area. But there’s a rilvary between to main gallaxies, Black Eye and Circinus. These are the main leaders of them all, and both have different way to govern, ideas, beliefs. An 500 years ago a war started between both gallaxies because of the differences of ideologies. And that’s how our story starts.
