Highlights on one nation one election

The idea behind this theory supports all election to take place on the same day every five years. By implementing this concept we would be able to save cost, resource and time.
“Once the voter enters the polling station, whether he votes for one election or two or three — it is the same thing.”
The only problem we may face is the number of voting machines needed has to be increased and also requires huge political consensus.
In India almost every month elections are held in one or the other state, which turns out into huge investments during campaign process. This is hampering in the growth of the nation as well as it is very time consuming and chaotic.
After enforcement of Constitution, the first election which was conducted in the year of 1952 was conducted simultaneously. This concept was ended when fourth Lok Sabha was liquidated early. This recommendation is again raised by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the idea is also supported by the former President Pranab Mukherjee and current President Ram Nath Kovind.
Some of the benefits of implementing this concept:
1. Time Saving
Since the elections are held very frequently, half of the year is invested in planning for the next election instead of doing constructive work for the development of the nation.
By implementing this idea ministers can invest their dedicated time and resources for implementing the policies for further betterment.
2. Reducing the expenditure
The election process is not only hectic and tedious, but also expensive.Lots of money is being invested in every election. The money is mostly spent on arrangements, salaries and security.
Holding simultaneous polls will lead to significant savings of public funds that can be better utilized elsewhere.
3. Better deployment of security forces
Elections requires security forces in abundant amount. As security is one of the major concern during this period.
Reduction in number of elections will eventually reduce the need of security forces which was diverted by performing their core duties.
But there are few of the challenges that may be encountered during implementation of this policy:
1. Overshadowing the small states
The disadvantage of implementing this bigger centralized agenda can overshadow the state and their regional issues. State or local issues may take a backseat, which would otherwise be crucial.
2. In activeness in politicians
During the elections politicians are well aware of the fact that they are responsible for every actions by their team members and if anything goes wrong they are accountable for that.
Reducing the number of elections would make them lazy for the rest of the term and suddenly become hyperactive during the election year.
Thus as we can say after the study of these arguments that there are strong arguments on both side. If the instantaneous election happens, there will be some problem for our nation but it is time to think beyond the boundaries and traditional limit and try to understand the insinuations of the simultaneous elections.
