No One Cares About the 80/20 Rule

The Pareto Principle helps you determine which areas to focus your efforts on.

Or does it? The idea is that your effort should be focused on the 20% of tasks that would yield 80% of the result.

Great. But identifying that 20% is not as straightforward as it seems. As everything depends on the field in which you are applying the principle.

I like the idea of eating the frog first, starting and concentrating time on the important work, but sometimes the small stuff is the important work. If I donā€™t do the accounting and pay suppliers, that surely will have a very negative effect on future productivity and work.

Is it worth becoming obsessed with such popular business principles, or is your time better spent testing what works best for you? And if thatā€™s the 80/20 rule, can you do me a favour and finally put a practical, real-life explanation behind it, right?

This is not about productivity, as productivity is not bound by principles. It is personal. Fight the Resistance and give your Self a voice.

Stay inspired. Keep inspiring.
