Why Cricket Sucks!

Before getting through the main part of this article, I just want to express that I have been a vivid follower of the game cricket since 10 years. However, it has been 2 years since I have started to observe flaw in this beautiful game.

I also want to convey that, there is a reason behind me saying cricket sucks.

Home advantage had been the greatest flaw in cricket since many years. We get to know about the results of most of the bilateral series before it begins. Australia winning the cricket world cup 2015 and not even qualifying for the semi-finals of Champions Trophy 2017 has something to do with home advantage. However, there are exceptions everywhere we look.

The prediction of match results has now been much easier. Similarly, if we look above chart then we can see that, India which has the highest win-loss ratio in the home has the second lowest ratio for the away matches. Again something to do with the home advantage here.

Australia not winning any test series in India since 2004 and India yet to win test series in Australia can be a good example of home advantage in cricket. Remember when Australia played ODI with India last month in India? The result was quite dominating as India thrash Australia by 4–1 win. Now, remember when India played with Australia in Australia on 2016?

The result was exactly opposite. Australia strike over India by 4–1 win. Now, You might be saying that the win of India over Australia was a total revenge. But, let me make you clear that it was not a revenge but a home advantage.

South Africa winning ODI series in India by 3–2 in 2016 and India winning ODI series in England by 3–2 in 2014 are some exception of home advantage. But, this does not happens most of the time. The probability of winning a series by an away team against home team is extremely low in cricket. This is what makes the win prediction much much easier.

However, now you might question, What about India winning test series in Sri-Lanka last month? What about India winning ODI series in West Indies in August? This is because they are the poor team. The prediction becomes much easier if the number 1 team and number 9 teams are playing with each other. Similarly, Sri-Lanka is a sub-continent. It does not count as abroad.

Specially test cricket now sucks.I don’t remember any test series won by Australia in Asia against Asian team. And same with the Asian team not winning any test series in Australia.

The other flaw of the cricket is its match duration. The shortest format of cricket i.e 20–20 lasts for more than 4 hours. On the other hand, a football match is played for maximum of 2.5 hours. But, that is only the shortest format of cricket. The longest format i.e Test extends for maximum 5 days. An ODI match lasts for more than 8 hours.

People at present are busy on their own work. They now only check for the scores of match in Internet even if they are the huge follower of cricket. And talking about the test cricket, only less people witness the match live. Test cricket seems boring to many people. Especially the young ones who loves 20–20 and IPL.

At the end, Cricket seems to be an interesting game if the flaw of Home advantage do not exist. Home Advantage has not only ease in prediction but also has ruined this beautiful game. I don’t think most of the people including myself will watch cricket if this seems to exist. ICC and other different boards must see this flaw seriously and should take a wise decision.
