Trump administration to detain children of undocumented immigrants for longer
WASHINGTON — Undocumented kids may now be detained longer than usual.
The Trump administration said on Thursday that it will keep some undocumented immigrant children in detention centers for longer than it’s currently allowed, the CNN reported.
This move comes after the administration’s goal to implement a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy this spring, CNN reported. The policy resulted in detention of more than 2,500 children, who were separated from their families.
Global Citizen Impact received documents suggesting the administration still has not reunited all families, separated at the boder. About 500 children, are still in custody.
Donald Trump tweeted on Friday criticizing the existing immigration laws, and suggesting they block the deportation of criminal aliens. He added, the Republican Party has passed a bill to increase the ability to deport violent felons.
